The restoration of heat and water supply in Kyiv continues after massive Russian shelling on January 9. Water supply in the capital has been fully restored.

This was announced by the Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, Oleksiy Kuleba.

“The city authorities and utility services have decided to drain the water from the heating systems for the duration of the restoration work. This is a technical procedure that must be carried out to prevent the water from freezing in the pipes. This is to prevent damage to internal networks in houses and apartments and to avoid accidents and pipe bursts during power outages,” Kuleba explained.

According to him, this decision allows the system to be preserved and the heating to be restarted after the stable power supply is restored. In some areas of Kyiv, heating is planned to be restored within 24 hours.

“In some areas where the damage is more complex, additional time is needed for restoration. Currently, this applies to about half of the residential buildings in the capital. In the rest of the city, heating is being supplied as usual,” the statement said.

Medical facilities in Kyiv are being heated by mobile boiler rooms. More than 1,200 emergency centers have been set up in the capital.
