Verkhovna Rada appoints Chernyshov Minister of National Unity of Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has appointed Oleksiy Chernyshov, the chairman of the board of “Naftogaz”, as deputy prime minister and minister of national unity.

The appointment was voted for by 237 MPs, according to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

Chernyshev’s candidacy was presented in the parliament by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal. Chernyshov himself also addressed the MPs, answering questions about the creation of the new ministry.

As a reminder, on November 19, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented a plan for Ukraine’s internal stability in parliament, which included the creation of this ministry.

The newly created Ministry of National Unity is designed to support Ukrainian communities abroad, help strengthen their ties with Ukraine, and protect common national interests.

According to Zelenskyy, a more active role of the state is needed to effectively implement these tasks, as the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are not enough.
