The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has published data on 11 Russian captains and 31 vessels involved in the circumvention of Russian oil supply schemes in violation of sanctions restrictions.
‘Among the disclosed individuals are tanker captains affiliated with the sanctioned Russian company Sovcomflot, who violate the policy of limiting the maximum price of Russian oil. In particular, these are Ivan Nikifirov, captain of the KOTLAS tanker, and Konstantin Kovalenko, captain of the CORUS tanker,’ the GUR said.
Captains have real information about the owners of shadow tankers, the technical condition of the vessels, the cargo and its value, as well as the route of the vessel.
It is they who make decisions to disable or manipulate the ships‘ navigation systems, falsify data on the vessels’ location, enter false data into route logs, dangerously transfer oil between ships at sea and use other schemes to circumvent sanctions.
‘Such actions not only contribute to the financing of the aggressive war against Ukraine, but also pose a threat of a global environmental disaster,’ the DIU stressed.
Data on 782 ships and 100 captains are already available in the ‘Ships’ section of the War & Sanctions portal.
