Russian marketplace Wildberries has begun searching for warehouse space in Kazakhstan after a series of Ukrainian drone strikes on logistics centers in Russia. The company is considering facilities of up to 100,000 square meters and, according to sources, is ready to take all available warehouses in the country.
Russian media reported this, citing sources in the real estate market.
Wildberries expects that relocating part of its capacity to Kazakhstan will help protect it from drone attacks. At the same time, finding the required amount of space will be difficult.
As of the end of 2025, Kazakhstan had 1.9 million square meters of high-quality logistics space, but only 5.8% remained vacant. By the end of June 2026, the market had around 130,000 square meters of vacant space spread across different cities, while there was no single complex with an area of 100,000 square meters.
The average rental rate in Kazakhstan was 5,180 tenge per square meter per month, or about 10,300 rubles per year. This is almost in line with prices in Moscow and the Moscow region.
Wildberries is also considering expanding its logistics infrastructure in Russia. However, owners of vacant warehouses are unwilling to sign new contracts with the marketplace because of the risk of attacks, while standard insurance does not cover damage caused by drone strikes.
The company said it was carrying out the planned construction of logistics facilities in the countries where it operates. In Kazakhstan, Wildberries is building a center covering more than 100,000 square meters in Almaty and a facility of more than 160,000 square meters in Astana.
