Ukrainian Ambassador to the US Warns of Pranksters and Cybercriminals

Oksana Markarova, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, reported numerous attempts to contact her by pranksters and cybercriminals posing as American government officials. She shared this information on her Facebook page.

The attackers have been trying to obtain direct contact with Ukrainian government officials or initiate urgent conversations, all while disguising themselves as US agency employees and using fake communication channels.

“We and our partners always communicate through trusted channels, so such attempts were immediately detected and reported to law enforcement agencies,” Markarova said.

She also urged everyone to remain especially vigilant due to the surge in such incidents and the increasingly sophisticated tactics used by the fraudsters, which may be linked to the aggressive actions of Ukraine’s “northern neighbors.”

Markarova’s Recommendations:

  • Verify contacts received from unknown numbers, email addresses, or messengers.
  • Report any suspicious communications to the relevant authorities.

The ambassador also emphasized the importance of exercising caution given the rising threat of cybercrime.
