Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced the signing of a letter of intent with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the sale of 100–150 Gripen E-series fighter jets to Ukraine. He made the statement at a joint press conference in Sweden, reports European Pravda.
“This takes us one step closer to a major export agreement for Saab — for Sweden together with Ukraine. It creates great opportunities for Ukraine’s Air Force, as well as for Sweden, our defense industry, and long-term industrial cooperation between our countries,” Kristersson said.
He clarified that the agreement does not involve immediate deliveries, but rather marks the start of a long-term partnership and preparations for a large-scale future deal.
According to the Swedish prime minister, the plan envisions “around 100–150 Gripen E fighter jets,” production of which has just begun. This would allow Ukraine to eventually build a powerful air force that will become part of “the larger family of modern fighter systems.”
Kristersson emphasized that the signed document is a mutual declaration of intent and the beginning of “a long journey over the next 10–15 years.”
