US President Donald Trump said he had a two-hour phone conversation with Vladimir Putin, which he described as “very good.” According to him, Russia and Ukraine have agreed to immediately begin negotiations on a ceasefire and the complete end of the war.
Trump announced this on the social network Truth Social.
According to Trump, the terms of a peaceful settlement should be discussed directly between the parties to the conflict.
The US president also noted that the tone and spirit of the conversation were positive and stated Russia’s interest in developing large-scale trade with the US after the end of the war. He stressed that this would open up opportunities for Russia to create jobs and accumulate wealth, and for Ukraine – the prospect of economic growth in the process of reconstruction.
The US president informed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb about the start of the negotiation process.
According to Trump, the Vatican has expressed interest in participating in the peace talks.
