Former US President Donald Trump has made a number of high-profile statements on his Truth Social social media platform regarding the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine.
Trump claims that Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad has left the country, and that his main ally, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, is no longer interested in supporting the Syrian regime. According to him, the Kremlin lost interest in Syria because of the war in Ukraine.
‘Russia had no reason to be there in the first place. They lost all interest because of Ukraine, where some 600,000 Russian soldiers are wounded or dead in a war that should never have started and could go on forever,’ Trump wrote.
The US president-elect also noted that Russia and Iran are in a weakened state: the former because of war and economic problems, the latter because of Israeli military action.
Trump urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to find a way to end the conflict, claiming that Ukraine ‘has lost 400,000 soldiers and many civilians’.
‘Too many lives have been lost senselessly, too many families have been destroyed, and if this continues, it could turn into something much bigger and worse. I know Vladimir (Putin – ed.) well. It is his time to act. China can help. The world is waiting!’ Trump concluded.
