President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that one of Russia’s biggest defeats is the cessation of gas transit through Ukraine, which once amounted to more than 130 billion cubic meters per year.

“When Putin was presented with the Russian presidency more than 25 years ago, the annual gas transit through Ukraine to Europe totaled more than 130 billion cubic meters. Today, it equals 0. This is one of Moscow’s biggest defeats,” Zelensky said.

Zelenskyy explained that Russia has turned energy into a weapon, which has led to the loss of its most attractive market – Europe. According to him, most European countries have been able to adapt to the new circumstances, but an important task remains to support Moldova during the energy transformation.

“Our joint task today is to support Moldova during the energy transformation period. We must overcome the hysteria of some European politicians who prefer mafia-style schemes with Moscow to transparent energy policy,” the president said.

Zelenskyy also expressed hope for an increase in American gas supplies to Europe.

“The more gas available on the market from Europe’s true partners, the sooner the last remaining consequences of Europe’s reliance on Russia will be eliminated,” the Ukrainian leader summarized.
