In Kyiv, the rubble of a residential building is still being cleared after the nighttime shelling on August 28. At least eight people are known to have died, including one child.

This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Dozens of people were injured. There may still be people under the rubble.

“Today’s Russian missiles and strike drones are a clear response to everyone in the world who has been calling for a ceasefire and real diplomacy for weeks and months. Russia chooses ballistics over the negotiating table,” Zelenskyy wrote.

The Ukrainian president called on China, Hungary, and other countries that had previously advocated for peace to respond to the tragedy. The president also stressed the need for new tough sanctions against Russia to hold it accountable for the war and the killing of civilians.

“All deadlines have already been missed, dozens of opportunities for diplomacy have been ruined. Russia must feel responsible for every strike, for every day of this war,” the president concluded.
