Sweden’s Supreme Court upheld the confiscation and transfer to Ukraine of the Russian shadow fleet vessel Caffa. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called the decision landmark and said it sets an important precedent.
Andrii Sybiha reported this on the social media platform X.
“This landmark decision sets an important precedent, demonstrating that decisive action by law enforcement agencies and prosecutors, combined with an independent and impartial judiciary, can turn the principle of accountability into concrete results,” the minister said.
Sybiha stressed that Ukraine continues to work to counter Russia’s shadow fleet and its ability to generate funds to finance the war.
As a reminder, the dry cargo vessel Caffa was detained on March 6, 2026, in Sweden’s territorial waters in the Baltic Sea. The operation was carried out by the Swedish Coast Guard with the involvement of special forces.
