Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina reached the Australian Open semifinals for the first time in her career, confidently defeating world number three Coco Gauff. In the quarterfinal match, the Ukrainian tennis player won in two sets — 6:1, 6:2.

        This was reported by Suspilne.

Ukraine’s top player continued her successful run at the 2026 Australian Open, defeating American Coco Gauff, who is ranked third in the world, in the quarterfinals. For Svitolina, this victory was her ninth in a row since the start of the season and allowed her to set a personal record at the tournament in Melbourne.

The Ukrainian approached the match against Gauff after defeating the seventh-ranked player in the world, Mirra Andreeva. The match against Coco Gauff was the fourth face-to-face confrontation between the tennis players — before that, the American led the series 2:1.

Svitolina won the first set in 29 minutes with a score of 6:1. After exchanging breaks at the start of the set, the Ukrainian took five games in a row, breaking her opponent’s serve three times. During the set, Gauff changed rackets several times, trying to find a different string tension.

In the second set, the situation on the court remained unchanged. Svitolina quickly took a 3:0 lead with a break, after which the opponents exchanged games on their serves. The second set also ended in favor of the Ukrainian — 6:2.

During the match, Svitolina made four aces and committed 16 unforced errors, while Goff made 23.

In the semifinals of the 2026 Australian Open, Elina Svitolina will play against the world’s number one player, “neutral” Aryna Sabalenka. The tennis players have met six times before, with Sabalenka leading 5-1 in their head-to-head record.
