Ukraine is in its strongest position since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, and British support will not change after Keir Starmer steps down as prime minister. According to Starmer, Ukraine’s battlefield experience is already helping the UK modernise its armed forces and drone industry.

Starmer made the remarks during a joint media appearance with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The British prime minister said that Ukraine had increased pressure on the battlefield in recent months, expanded effective long-range strikes and benefited from stronger international sanctions against Russia.

“The shift in momentum is real. Ukraine is in its strongest position since the beginning of the Russian invasion,” Starmer said.

He described Ukraine not as a burden but as a cornerstone of European security. According to the prime minister, Ukraine’s armed forces are among the most battle-hardened in Europe and are an essential part of the continent’s collective security.

Starmer insisted that his departure would not change London’s policy towards Kyiv. He pointed to broad support for Ukraine among the British public and across political parties.

“We will stand with you and with the Ukrainian people for as long as it takes, and long after that,” he said.

According to Starmer, the war has forced Britain to reconsider its own approach to defence. The UK is modernising its armed forces based on lessons learned from Ukraine and is developing its drone manufacturing industry in cooperation with Ukrainian specialists.

British experts are working alongside Ukrainian troops, he said, studying which technologies work on the battlefield and helping improve them in real time.

Zelensky said he hoped Ukraine would maintain equally strong relations with the next British prime minister.
