German defence group Rheinmetall has begun supplying Ukraine with 155mm artillery shells from a plant in Lower Saxony. More than half of the order has already been delivered, while the remainder is due to be transferred by the end of 2026.

This is stated in a Rheinmetall press release.

Previously, deliveries were made from other plants within the group’s production network.

The first batch includes a low five-figure number of shells, as well as propellant charges manufactured at other Rheinmetall facilities.

More than half of the order has already been delivered. The remainder is planned to be transferred to Ukraine by the end of 2026.

The delivery involves RH1412 shells from the new Werk Niedersachsen plant in Lower Saxony. These are the latest products in Rheinmetall’s artillery portfolio.

The shells can be used with various 155mm artillery systems. The company said they offer long range and high effectiveness.

Rheinmetall continues to expand the capacity of its existing facilities and establish new production sites due to growing demand for 155mm shells and propellant charges.

Since 2022, the group has been increasing production and plans to manufacture around 1.5 million 155mm artillery shells annually by 2030.
