The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has identified another occupier who committed war crimes against Ukrainians. He was named as Volodymyr Polupoltinnykh — the commander of the Russian-created “6th Separate Motorized Cossack Regiment of the LNR,” which is part of the armed formations of Russia’s Southern Military District.

This was reported by the SBU.

According to the investigation, on June 10, 2022, Polupoltinnykh ordered his subordinates to torture Ukrainian soldiers who had been captured during battles on the eastern front. The perpetrator personally took part in the torture. It has been documented that during one of the tortures, he used a knife to carve the letter “Z” on the forehead of a captured Ukrainian serviceman.

According to the case materials, the war criminal is a resident of the temporarily occupied part of Luhansk region who joined the Russian-controlled illegal armed formations in 2014. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the offender, as part of Russian occupation forces, has participated in combat operations in eastern Ukraine.

SBU investigators have notified Polupoltinnykh in absentia of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 28 and Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of Articles 4, 13, 14, and 15 of the 1949 Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War, which prohibits any unlawful acts or omissions by the detaining power that pose a serious threat to the health of a prisoner of war under its protection, committed by a group of persons).
