The SBU detained an agent of the Russian military intelligence (GRU) near Odesa who was trying to obtain secret Ukrainian technologies in the field of drones.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

The offender was a resident of unrecognised Transnistria. His task was to recruit a Ukrainian military officer who works with drones to obtain technical documentation for the latest strike and reconnaissance UAVs.

The agent arrived in Ukraine under the guise of a businessman allegedly engaged in food imports. During the operation, he constantly reported to the ‘Deputy Minister of Defence of Transnistria’, who cooperates with the Russian GRU.

The SBU detained the spy red-handed when he was trying to obtain a flash drive with classified information. His plan was to take this data to Transnistria and start manufacturing combat drones for Russia.

During the search, two pistols were found in the detainee’s possession and sent for examination.

The defendant is in custody. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
