Moldovan President Maia Sandu said she had evidence of large-scale vote buying.
She said this in a speech at her campaign headquarters.
Sandu claims that the authorities have evidence of large-scale vote buying, calling it a ‘fraud of unprecedented proportions’.
‘We have clear evidence that these criminal groups aimed to buy 300,000 votes.’
It should be noted that the Moldovan president did not claim that votes had been bought – her speech left room for interpretation. She refused to answer clarifying questions.
In her speech, Maia Sandu stressed that the ‘unprecedented attack on freedom and democracy’ had been going on for several months, and that criminal groups and foreign forces were behind it, ‘attacking our country with tens of millions of euros, lies and propaganda’. As you know, the Moldovan authorities have previously repeatedly claimed attempts to ‘hack the elections’ by the group of Ilan Shor, who was convicted in Moldova for stealing a billion euros from three banks, as well as the authorities of Russia, where Shor is currently hiding.
Maia Sandu, however, did not make a clear statement on whether she would recognise the election results. ‘We are waiting for the final results and will react with firm decisions,’ she said.
