Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that the conditions he announced in June 2024 for ending the war against Ukraine remain unchanged.
According to Russian state media, during a press conference, Putin reiterated the Kremlin’s demands, namely:
- the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions;
- Ukraine’s commitment not to join NATO;
- the consolidation of its neutral, non-aligned, and non-nuclear status.
Putin also said that “disappointment” stems from “excessive expectations.” His words were apparently a response to US President Donald Trump’s ultimatum.
“To resolve this issue peacefully, we need not public discussion, but calm work within the framework of the negotiation process. It is for this purpose that we have proposed the creation of working groups,” Putin said.
