Armenian telegram channels have begun to spread a fake claim that the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (GUR) is trying to provoke a new conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

According to the GUR, the authors of the disinformation claim that such a war would force Russia to open a ‘second front’ by dispersing its forces, which would allegedly be beneficial for Ukraine.

The basis for this fake news was a fake ‘report’ allegedly from the GUR addressed to the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine Ivan Havryliuk. However, the document contains gross errors – in particular, the spelling ‘Yvan’ instead of Ivan, ‘SDR’ instead of EDRPOU and other inconsistencies that are not typical of official documents.

This information operation is aimed at discrediting Ukraine and deteriorating its relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, the GUR said. Such actions are primarily beneficial to Russia, which is interested in increasing tensions in the region.
