Poland closes Russian consulate general in Poznan

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has decided to withdraw his consent to the operation of the Russian consulate in Poznan, according to the Polish Foreign Ministry’s website.

According to the decision, the consulate’s diplomatic staff will be considered undesirable persons on the territory of the Republic of Poland, the ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry added that an attempted sabotage inspired by foreign intelligence activities had recently taken place in Wroclaw, which is part of the consulate’s area of operation. The ministry did not give other details about the incident.

The Polish ministry said in a statement that according to intelligence services, Russian Federation is waging hybrid warfare against Poland, organizing cyberattacks and attacking the eastern border.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on the decision of the Polish authorities, told the Russian media: “We will give a painful response to the next hostile step”.
