Poland officially activated Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty after an incident involving Russian drones violating its airspace.

        This was reported by Euronews.

Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty stipulates that member states shall consult together whenever, in their opinion, the territorial integrity, political independence, or security of any of the member states is threatened.

“The downing of drones that threaten our security is a success for Polish and NATO forces, which at the same time changes the political situation,” said Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

He added that due to the violation of airspace, the allies’ consultations took the form of an official request to activate Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty. The decision was made after consultations with President Karol Nawrocki.

On the night of September 10, Russian drones crossed the Polish border. This was the first time Poland had destroyed Russian targets on its territory.

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that “targets on Polish territory” were allegedly not planned during the attack.
