The Security Service of Ukraine has gathered evidence on the Russian military command involved in the air strike on Kharkiv on May 25, 2024.

On that day, two guided aerial bombs were dropped on the Epicenter construction hypermarket. The attack killed 19 people and injured 46 others. The shopping center building and warehouses were completely destroyed.

It has been established that the order for the attack was given by the commander of the “North” group of the Russian Armed Forces, Colonel General Alexander Lapin. The preparation of the operation was organized by the chief of staff of this group, Lieutenant General Valery Solodchuk.

The attack also involved:

  • Commander of the 6th Army of the Russian Air Force and Air Defense, Lieutenant General Oleg Makovetsky;
  • Chief of Staff of this army, Major General Yuri Podoplyov;
  • Colonel Oleksiy Loboda, commander of the 47th Bomber Regiment.

The Russian military used Su-34 bombers, which dropped three D-30SN UMPB bombs. Two of the bombs hit the building, and another fell nearby but did not explode.

All five defendants were served suspicion notices in absentia for violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The SBU continues to work to bring the perpetrators to justice.
