Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha commented on the crash and explosion of a drone in Moldova, saying the incident demonstrates the threat Russia poses to the entire region. Ukraine expressed support for Moldova following the incident near Orhei.
Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that an unidentified flying object, believed to be a drone, crashed and exploded near the village of Lopatna in the Orhei district.
The ministry stated that any unauthorized aerial object entering Moldova’s airspace or falling on its territory poses a threat to national security and constitutes a violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Later, Moldova’s Foreign Ministry said it was in constant contact with Ukrainian authorities regarding the incident. According to preliminary information, the drone most likely originated from Ukraine.
At the same time, the ministry stressed that regardless of the drone’s origin, responsibility for such incidents lies with Russia, which started the war against Ukraine. Chisinau also expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
Commenting on the incident, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed full support for Moldova and thanked the country for its consistent condemnation of Russian aggression.
“This incident clearly demonstrates that Moscow poses a threat not only to Ukraine, but to the entire region and Europe as a whole,” Sybiha said.
He also called for increased international pressure on Russia.
“Collective pressure on Russia must be strengthened so that the Kremlin finally takes a sober look at the situation and recognizes that it will never achieve its goals on the battlefield, and therefore the only path for Putin is to end this war,” the minister said.
