On the night of May 28, Russia suffered a large-scale drone attack, during which a number of targets in six regions, including Moscow, were hit. One of the key episodes was the strike on the Elma technology park in Zelenograd, a scientific and industrial center 43 km from Moscow.
Damage to the Elma technology park
According to Russian Telegram channels and local authorities, the drone attack in Zelenograd caused a fire at the Elma technology park, which brings together more than 150 companies working in the fields of microelectronics, radio electronics, information technology, optics, control and measuring instruments, robotics, and neurotechnology.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that air defense forces allegedly shot down 33 drones, but debris fell in several places, causing fires and damage to buildings.
Large-scale drone attack
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that between 9 p.m. and midnight, air defense forces destroyed and intercepted 112 drones over the Bryansk, Belgorod, Tula, Kursk, Oryol, and Kaluga regions.
Reaction and consequences
As a result of the attack, several airports were suspended, including Vnukovo, Zhukovsky, as well as airports in Vladimir, Kostroma, Ivanovo, and Yaroslavl.
Although Russian authorities claim that there was no serious damage, numerous photos and videos of the explosions, drones flying overhead, and the subsequent fire at the Elma technology park appeared online.
This attack was one of the largest in recent times, demonstrating the vulnerability of Russian infrastructure even in the immediate vicinity of the capital.
