Massive Attack on Kharkiv: Three Killed, at Least 19 Injured, Including an Infant

On the night of June 7, Russian forces launched one of the most powerful attacks on Kharkiv since the start of the full-scale invasion. According to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, who reported the situation on social media, the enemy carried out a combined strike using Shahed kamikaze drones, missiles, and guided aerial bombs (FABs with UMPK).

The strikes began around 3:00 a.m. and lasted for over an hour and a half. According to Terekhov and the head of the Kharkiv Regional Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, at least 40 explosions were recorded. Preliminary estimates suggest the city was targeted with 53 Shahed drones, four FABs, and one missile.

The attack caused extensive destruction in several districts of the city. In the Kyivskyi district, enemy drones hit a private house, a higher education institution, and a civilian industrial facility, triggering large fires — one of which covered an area of about 10,000 square meters. Two people were killed in this district, and several others were injured, including a 14-year-old girl.

In the Osnovianskyi district, a Shahed drone struck a nine-story apartment building, igniting fires on the upper floors. Rescuers pulled a woman from the rubble; she is receiving medical assistance. One person was killed in this district as well.

According to official reports, the attack left three people dead and at least 19 injured. Among the injured is a 1.5-month-old infant.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) reported that fires and destruction were also recorded in the private sector, at industrial sites, and in abandoned buildings on the city’s outskirts. Emergency response teams, medics, psychologists, and explosive ordnance disposal experts are working at the scene. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
