Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said that Alexander Lukashenko acts in the interests of Vladimir Putin and may allow Russia to use Belarusian territory for new threats against Ukraine. According to her, as long as Lukashenko remains in power, Belarus will continue to be a source of danger for the region.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said this during her visit to Ukraine on May 25, hromadske reports.

According to the Belarusian opposition leader, Lukashenko depends on Kremlin support and is ready to agree to any actions by Russia.

“Lukashenko will allow anything because his personal power depends on Putin,” Tsikhanouskaya said.

She also commented on Russia’s recent statements about nuclear weapons and the “Oreshnik” missile system.

“We understand that when Russia needs it, Belarus will be used simply because Lukashenko is there,” the Belarusian opposition leader said.

Tsikhanouskaya stressed that Lukashenko himself does not care about the interests of Belarusians or Ukrainians, and that his main goal is to preserve power. She also said that, in her opinion, most Belarusians do not support Russia’s war against Ukraine.

“Lukashenko also understands that Belarusians do not support Russia, do not support this war — Belarusians are for Ukraine,” Tsikhanouskaya noted.

She also called for support for the Belarusian democratic movement in order to achieve “systemic irreversible changes” in the country.

As previously reported, on May 25 Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya arrived in Kyiv for the first time. During her visit to Ukraine, she visited the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and Pripyat.

Earlier, Belarus’ Defense Ministry announced joint military exercises with Russia during which the use of nuclear weapons will be practiced. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi also stated that the possibility of offensive actions from Belarus remains real.
