For several months now, the Pokrovsk agglomeration has remained one of the most intense centres of combat operations on the front line, where Russian troops are trying to break through the defences of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. This was reported by the commander of the 7th Rapid Response Corps of the Airborne Forces, Brigadier General Yevhen Lasiychuk.

According to Lasiychuk, the enemy is trying to impose manoeuvre battles, shake up the Ukrainian defence and create a threat of flanking the Defence Forces. At the same time, the Ukrainian military is holding its lines and conducting countermeasures.

The corps commander noted that almost a month ago, Russian troops changed their tactics in the Pokrovsk direction. Instead of infiltrating in small groups, the enemy switched to mechanised assaults on the city and is now actively using continuous infantry attacks.

According to him, the Defence Forces are responding quickly to the enemy’s change in tactics and adapting their own tactics.

“The enemy has already deployed the Pskov 76th Airborne Assault Division on our section of the front. Some enemy units that were planning to advance on Zaporizhzhia have also been transferred to Pokrovsk. We expect that before the New Year, the enemy will try to intensify its offensive and carry out active assaults, including mechanised ones,” Lasiychuk said.

He stressed that the situation indicates a transition of hostilities to a new phase, which requires maximum resilience and flexibility in decision-making from Ukrainian troops.
