Russia has ramped up its information attacks against European countries by intensifying the Doppelganger special operation ahead of Poland’s presidential elections. This was reported by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (GUR).

According to GUR, Doppelganger is one of Russia’s largest and longest-running information campaigns targeting EU and NATO countries. As part of this operation, Russian intelligence agencies create fake websites and social media pages that imitate the design and content of legitimate Western media outlets. These platforms are used to spread disinformation disguised as real news.

Since March, Russian special services have increased their influence on Polish voters by disseminating false and manipulative messages, particularly on the social network X (formerly Twitter), actively using bot farms and fake accounts impersonating real citizens.

The Kremlin’s main narratives include criticism of Poland’s support for Ukraine, calls for the country to leave the European Union, and discrediting the policies of Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government. At the same time, pro-Russian media are shaping a negative image of Ukraine, portraying it as the main source of “chaos” in Polish politics.

GUR emphasizes that these actions are part of a broader hybrid pressure strategy by Moscow aimed at weakening the internal unity of EU and NATO countries.
