On March 12, Iran attacked a French military base in the city of Makhmur in Iraq with drones. As a result of the attack, six French soldiers were wounded, one of whom later died.

This was reported by Reuters, citing the governor of Erbil province, Omed Koshnau, and a source in the security services.

French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the attack. He specified that the soldier who died was Senior Adjutant Arnaud Frion.

According to him, the presence of French troops in the region is linked to the fight against terrorism, and the war in Iran “cannot justify such attacks.”

At least six French soldiers were wounded in a drone attack on a joint base of Kurdish militias and French troops near the city of Mahmur (Kurdistan).

According to France 24, the soldiers were participating in counterterrorism training exercises with their Iraqi partners. All of the wounded were taken to the nearest medical facility.
