In Kharkiv region, a 17-year-old boy attacked a teenage girl and tried to burn her.
According to the head of the investigative police department of Kharkiv region Serhiy Bolvinov, it happened in one of the villages of the region. A 17-year-old college freshman is suspected of the crime. He was taken into custody.
‘In a common company they were celebrating a birthday in a neighbouring village, drinking. And then friends gave both of them a lift home, dropped them off at a crossroads. Then they went on foot and near their house the guy asked to help him open the door, lured the girl home and started molesting,’ the report said.
Bolvinov says that when the girl refused the guy, he struck six blows with a brick on her head.
‘She lost consciousness and he pulled her from the yard to the vegetable garden. Right at the fence he stopped – he raped the unconscious girl and tried to strangle her with his hands. And further, already in the vegetable garden, he started burning – for this purpose he poured diesel fuel on his friend,’ – stated in the message.
He set fire to the girl’s clothes and went to sleep, the investigator said.
‘Woke him up already screaming neighbours. The girl on the ground with smoke coming from her saw a man from a neighbouring plot when he went to the toilet. He immediately recognised the schoolgirl and called her mother. It was the rain that saved her life – it did not extinguish the flames completely, but did not let the child burn,’ Bolvinov said.
The guy faces life imprisonment.
