In France, Tour de France spectators climbed on graves to get a better view

In the French town of Boulogne-sur-Mer, Tour de France spectators climbed on graves at the local cemetery to get a better view of the bike race. The incident caused a wave of outrage among residents and relatives of the deceased.

        This was reported by L’Équipe.

The cemetery is located near the Saint-Étienne-aux-Monts climb, one of the most difficult sections of the second stage of the race. It offered one of the best views of the route, so some fans decided to watch the competition from the cemetery grounds, even climbing on top of the gravestones.

The Saint-Étienne-aux-Monts town hall published photos from the race, after which many critical comments appeared under the post. People were outraged that the cemetery was not closed, and called the behaviour of the spectators unacceptable and offensive.

Relatives of those buried in the cemetery said they were shocked by what they saw and considered it a sign of deep disrespect.
