A combined unit of Ukraine’s State Emergency Service has begun carrying out tasks to extinguish large-scale wildfires in France. The rescuers were tasked with preventing the fire from spreading to an equestrian center and protecting young forest plantations.
This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
Before beginning the work, the Ukrainian rescuers met with General Frédéric Tourneya, who is responsible for civil protection issues in the European Union.
Following a meeting at the wildfire response command post, the unit was assigned work areas and given its first operational tasks.
The Ukrainian rescuers are working together with their French colleagues. Efforts to extinguish the wildfires are continuing.
As a reminder, on July 31, Ukrainian rescuers departed for France to help combat the large-scale wildfires.
This is the first mission by a Ukrainian team to provide assistance to a European Union member state under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The combined unit includes 70 rescuers and 15 pieces of specialized equipment: 10 fire engines, two trucks, a medical vehicle, and buses for transporting personnel.
