Georgia has launched an investigation into possible election fraud

The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has launched an investigation into possible falsifications at the parliamentary elections after the appeal of the Central Election Commission.

The report notes that according to the statement of the Central Election Commission and information disseminated in the media, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has evidence of possible falsifications. Therefore, the president is summoned for questioning on October 31.  

“The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia will conduct all necessary investigative and procedural actions, as stated in the CEC appeal, simultaneously in order to study the facts voiced by the President of Georgia, individual political parties and representatives of observation missions. Including within the framework of the investigation, all those persons who may have information related to the alleged criminal fact will be questioned,” the Prosecutor’s Office stated.


According to Georgia’s Central Election Commission, the ruling Georgian Dream party, won 53.9 percent of the vote in the election and a majority in parliament. The four main opposition parties – Coalition for Change (11%), United National Movement (10.2%), Strong Georgia (8.8%), and Gakharia for Georgia (7.8%) – also passed into parliament. They are in favor of Georgia’s rapprochement with the West.
