On May 14, a massive attack by Russian “Geran-2” drones sparked new fires in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
This was reported by the Chernobyl Nature Reserve.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, the fire has engulfed over 80 hectares of land. The shelling ignited forest litter and deadwood.
Firefighting operations are underway at three locations simultaneously.
“The spread of the fire is being fueled by dry weather and strong gusts of wind,” the statement said.
A total of 148 rescue workers have been deployed to fight the fires.
