On Sunday morning, the submarine fiber optic cable of the Latvian State Radio and Television Center (LVRTC) was damaged.
This is stated in the publication of LSM.
The company noted that the damage to the cable was most likely due to external influences, and added that the extent of the damage could be determined only after the start of repair work.
Latvian Prime Minister Ewika Silina has summoned ministers and heads of services to investigate the incident. She also said that the country is cooperating with NATO and other Baltic states to clarify all the circumstances.
In November 2024, it became known that submarine cables between Lithuania and Sweden had been severed in the Baltic Sea. Swedish police are investigating the incident as a possible sabotage.
In the same month, a communication cable of the Finnish company Cinia, which runs under the Baltic Sea and connects Finland with Germany, was damaged.
