On the night of 14 September, an explosion occurred in a train carriage on the Boyarka-Vasylkiv section in the Kyiv region. The incident damaged the railway infrastructure, but there were no casualties.

According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, State Emergency Service rescuers and Ukrzaliznytsia teams have been working at the site since the morning, removing the damaged rolling stock and checking the area for explosives. Preparations are currently underway to lay new rails in order to resume traffic by the evening rush hour.

The train, which was at the site of the explosion between Kharkiv and Przemyśl at the time of the detonation, was initially delayed by four hours, but the delay has been reduced to one hour. To maintain connections, Ukrzaliznytsia has agreed on accelerated checks with the border services of Ukraine and Poland. A total of 28 trains are running on modified routes with delays of one and a half to three hours.

Suburban train traffic in the direction of Fastiv is restricted. Instead, shuttle services are running on the Kyiv-Boyarka section, and the Kyiv Regional State Administration has organised additional bus routes.

‘I would like to thank the employees of Ukrzaliznytsia for their care for passengers, and the employees of the State Emergency Service for their prompt response and effective work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency,’ said the Prime Minister.
