US President Donald Trump has announced that Boeing has won the tender for the development of a sixth-generation fighter jet. The fighter jet will be called the F-47. The Pentagon is expected to purchase at least 200 of these aircraft.

This was reported by the Defense Blog and Reuters.

The new F-47 will be the world’s first sixth-generation fighter jet. The contract worth more than $20 billion covers the engineering and production development phase. Each aircraft is projected to cost about $300 million, which means that the total cost of the program could exceed $80 billion.

It is known that the F-47 is already undergoing testing and its characteristics are claimed to be “superior to all existing aircraft”.

The US Air Force plans to receive a new combat aircraft with enhanced range, speed and stealth characteristics, which will allow it to withstand modern and advanced weapons systems of potential adversaries, including Russia and China. The fighter is expected to be accompanied by automated companion drones during combat missions.

The F-47 will replace the F-22 developed by Lockheed Martin in the army. The corporation also participated in a tender for a new fighter jet, but lost it.
