Ukraine’s military intelligence agency said the ICEYE “People’s Satellite” project has already provided nearly 6,000 radar satellite images. According to the HUR, the data helps identify Russian military targets and inflict billions of dollars in losses on the aggressor.

The statement was published by Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate (HUR).

The agency said that since September 2022, specialists have received more than 5,900 satellite images.

According to HUR, space intelligence units use the images daily to track objects in occupied territories and inside Russia, identify military targets, plan strikes, and assess the results of attacks.

HUR spokesperson Andrii Yusov said the “People’s Satellite” became Ukraine’s “first sharp eyes in orbit.”

“Billions in losses for the Russian aggressor are among the results delivered by the ‘People’s Satellite,’ strengthening our resilience,” Yusov said.

The agency explained that SAR radar technology allows images to be captured regardless of weather conditions or time of day, with some images reaching a resolution of 0.25 meters per pixel.

The “People’s Satellite” project was launched in 2022 through a fundraising campaign organized by the Serhii Prytula Charity Foundation.

As part of the initiative, Ukrainian intelligence gained access to a satellite operated by Finnish aerospace company ICEYE and its satellite image database.

Following the HUR statement, Serhii Prytula thanked everyone who contributed to the fundraising campaign.

“For the first time on the planet, civilians pooled money together to provide their intelligence service with a radar satellite,” Prytula wrote.

He also urged people “not to let anyone diminish this achievement,” saying that “millions of people stand behind this satellite.”
