Ukraine and NATO have jointly developed two artificial intelligence models designed to support combat operations by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. One predicts the intensity, locations and timing of Russian drone attacks, while the other helps plan artillery operations based on available weapons and ammunition.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence announced the development.

The first system, “Model No. 13”, is designed to forecast drone activity. It analyzes historical data, weather conditions and the current operational situation to predict the likely intensity of attacks, target areas, time windows and types of drones involved.

The Ministry of Defence said the model has already been tested using real-world datasets. It is ready for integration into the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ situational awareness systems.

The second system, “Model No. 32”, helps military personnel plan artillery operations. It takes into account available weapons, ammunition stocks, firing positions, logistics, ballistic characteristics and other operational constraints.

The AI automatically eliminates unfeasible options, evaluates the remaining alternatives and ranks them by priority.

A prototype of Model No. 32 has already been delivered to Ukrainian recipients for testing and evaluation.

Both systems were developed by NATO’s Allied Command Transformation and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with the participation and support of the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC).

If testing and validation are successful, the model could be scaled up for use by other Ukrainian Defence Forces combat units involved in fire missions against Russian forces. The prototype has already been handed over to Ukrainian recipients for testing and evaluation.
