China will strengthen communication and coordination with other parties on Ukraine. Chinese President Xi Jinping said this while speaking about the need to advance a political settlement.

The statement was made during a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
The day before, on August 31, Xi met with Putin on the sidelines of the SCO summit. According to the official Xinhua report, they discussed international and regional issues, but the Chinese side did not provide separate details of any discussion on Ukraine.
According to Russian media citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the meeting between Putin and Xi Jinping took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, and the two leaders trust each other. The Ukraine crisis was reportedly discussed only briefly.
