        185 Ukrainian defenders returned home from Russian captivity

        Today, October 2, a new stage of prisoner exchange took place. 185 defenders returned to Ukraine from Russian captivity.

        This was announced by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

        Of the 185 prisoners who returned to Ukraine today, 183 are privates and sergeants, and two are officers. All those released from captivity are soldiers of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, and the State Border Service.

        “Twenty civilians are also returning with the defenders. Everyone will be provided with the necessary support,” Zelenskyy wrote.

        Most of the soldiers had been in captivity since 2022. Among those released are defenders of Mariupol, Azovstal, and the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

        Since the start of the full-scale invasion, more than 7,000 Ukrainians have been returned from Russian captivity.
