During the night of June 15, Russia launched 70 missiles and 611 drones against Ukraine, with the main strike targeting Kyiv. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the attack on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra was one of Russia’s biggest crimes against Christian culture.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote about this on social media.
More than 60 missiles were used by Russian forces in the attack on Kyiv alone. As of now, 28 people are known to have been injured and four killed in the capital.
“Because of the Russian strike on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, the Dormition Cathedral was on fire — a church whose history began back in the 11th century. And today this is one of Russia’s biggest crimes against Christian culture,” Zelenskyy said.
The State Emergency Service has already extinguished the fire on the cathedral’s roof.
In Kharkiv, Russian forces carried out a repeated strike on rescuers who were working at the site of a previous strike on an enterprise. As a result of the attack, five people were killed and another nine were injured.
In Dnipro, Russian forces struck the territory of a railway station, a college and an enterprise.
The Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Mykolaiv regions were also under Russian attack.
“This is how Russia shows the world its intention to continue the war,” the president stressed.
Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of a decisive response from the G7 countries and called for increased pressure on Russia and greater assistance to Ukraine in the field of air defense, particularly with anti-ballistic systems.
