President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed the approval of an agreement between Ukraine and the United States on minerals and rare earth metals. He said this during a press conference.
According to him, the agreement does not contain a “$500 billion” clause. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is not a debtor in this agreement. “The main issues I raised sound good in the text. The teams worked well – both Ukrainian and American,” the president said.
According to the agreement, Ukraine and the United States will be co-owners of a special fund to which Ukraine will transfer 50% of the income from future mining of minerals and rare earth metals.
Zelenskyy also said that the agreement does not contain all the security guarantees that Ukraine seeks. At the same time, the text states that the United States supports “Ukraine’s efforts to obtain the security guarantees necessary for sustainable peace.”
The next step will be to prepare a detailed text of the agreement, which, once approved by the signatories, must be ratified by the Verkhovna Rada.
The full text of the agreement was published by the European Pravda media outlet, and is available here.
