Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on a possible trilateral meeting between Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, to which Ukraine has not been invited. In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, he said Putin was already gradually emerging from international isolation and explained what security guarantees Ukraine needs for a ceasefire.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy made the remarks in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
The president stressed that the issue was not only whether talks between the leaders of the United States, Russia and China would take place with Ukraine’s participation. According to him, Putin’s gradual emergence from international isolation has already begun.
“The problem is not just whether they meet with us or without us: unfortunately, Putin’s gradual emergence from isolation has already begun. This would not be the first step. However, if Ukraine is being discussed, we would like Ukraine to be consulted,” the president said.
Zelenskyy added that he would like to understand the intentions of those taking part in the possible meeting to avoid further surprises. At the same time, he declined to comment on other issues that Trump, Putin and Xi Jinping might discuss, as he did not know the agenda of the talks.
