President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a working visit to Sweden, during which Ukraine and the Swedish side are preparing a new defense package and a decision regarding Gripen fighter jets.
“We are preparing a major defense package for Ukraine and a strong step regarding Gripen fighter jets, which will definitely make our combat aviation more effective,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the president, meetings with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson are planned during the visit, along with talks involving representatives of Sweden’s defense industry.
Zelenskyy thanked the Swedish government and people for supporting Ukraine, their principled position, and cooperation in the fields of security and defense.
“We continue and expand our cooperation,” the president stressed.
As previously reported, Sweden is preparing to transfer several Jas 39 Gripen C/D fighter jets to Ukraine. Stockholm also plans to begin negotiations on the sale of more modern Gripen E aircraft to Ukraine.
