Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte visited the Kyiv thermal power plant, which was attacked by Russia at night. According to him, the strike was deliberate and targeted a civilian energy facility during a period of severe frost.

Denys Shmyhal wrote about this on Telegram.

Together with Mark Rutte, he inspected the consequences of the missile strike on the thermal power plant, which provides heat to the residents of Kyiv.

The Russians struck the civilian facility just as the air temperature dropped to -25°C. He stressed that this attack was deliberate and must be properly assessed.

“We emphasized this together with Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga. In a conversation with Mr. Rutte, we emphasized the importance of strengthening the protection of heat and power supply facilities. Air defense systems and missiles for them. It is important to ensure the timely supply of weapons, as Russia is increasing its production,” Shmyhal wrote.

Shmyhal and Rutte also discussed cooperation in countering cyber threats in the energy sector. According to the minister, joint work is necessary because Russia continues to wage a hybrid war against NATO member states as well.
