Due to a massive Russian attack on 23 December, Ukrainian nuclear power plants were forced to reduce electricity generation, leaving consumers in eight regions without power.

This was announced at a briefing by Acting Minister of Energy Artem Nekrasov.

‘As a result of Russia’s massive attack on energy infrastructure, nuclear power plants were forced to reduce their generation capacity. The increase in the capacity of nuclear power plants to nominal values will take place gradually, as soon as energy companies restore the networks damaged by the enemy,’ Nekrasov said.

He stressed that Russian strikes on infrastructure that supplies power to nuclear power plants and distributes their power to the general grid are a violation of nuclear safety standards. ‘And this should not be ignored by the international community. Russia’s policy of energy terrorism must be stopped,’ Nekrasov emphasised.
