On August 12, Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out a series of strikes on Russian military facilities in temporarily occupied Crimea. A control tower housing a reconnaissance drone data processing center was hit at the Saky airfield, while a relay station used to control strike drones was targeted near Chornomorske.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Special Operations Forces reported the strikes.
The Saky airfield control tower was hit by Middle Strike units of Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces. The facility is located near Novofedorivka.
The tower housed a center that collected and processed information transmitted by Russian Orion and Forpost reconnaissance drones. It was also used to control the movement of crewed and uncrewed aircraft.
The Special Operations Forces said disabling the facility would complicate Russia’s aerial reconnaissance and drone operations.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces conducted another strike near Chornomorske, hitting a relay station used to control Geran and Gerbera strike drones.
According to the General Staff, the strikes weakened Russia’s ability to operate the military airfield and control its attack drones.
“Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces continue to dismantle the enemy’s network of military facilities on the temporarily occupied Ukrainian peninsula,” the Special Operations Forces said.
The General Staff added that operations against key Russian targets were continuing. Ukrainian forces are systematically reducing Russia’s ability to conduct combat operations and sustain its military formations.
