On the night of September 9, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck infrastructure at Russia’s naval base in Novorossiysk as well as the Admiral Essen frigate. A fire broke out on the ship’s superstructure after the strike.
This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.
The operation was carried out by operators from the HUR Active Operations Department together with other components of Ukraine’s Defense Forces as part of a deep-strike operation.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the strike hit infrastructure at Russia’s naval base in Novorossiysk as well as the Project 11356 frigate Admiral Essen.
A fire broke out on the ship’s superstructure following the strikes.
The Admiral Essen is capable of carrying Kalibr cruise missiles, which Russia uses to strike targets in Ukraine.
HUR also recalled that in August 2026, Ukrainian forces had already struck the Russian missile-carrying ships Admiral Essen and Admiral Makarov, as well as the patrol ship Vasily Bykov.
