Ukrainian missile forces struck the Proton-Elektrotex plant in the Russian city of Oryol with Neptune missiles overnight on November 7. The facility manufactures components for cruise and ballistic missiles, and the strike reportedly hit its target, triggering a fire and explosions.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the operation.
According to the Ukrainian military command, missile forces carried out the strike against the Russian defense industry facility in Oryol region using Neptune coastal missile systems operated by the Ukrainian Navy.
The General Staff confirmed a direct hit on the target. A fire broke out on the plant’s premises, and explosions were heard. The extent of the damage to the facility is still being assessed.
Proton-Elektrotex JSC is one of Russia’s leading manufacturers of optoelectronic equipment and devices, operating a full production cycle.
The company’s products include modules for Kh-71 Kover air-launched cruise missiles, as well as inverter switches for 9M723 ballistic missiles used by the Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system.
The strike on the plant complicates the production of components for cruise and ballistic missiles that the Russian military uses to attack Ukrainian cities.
Earlier, the governor of Oryol region confirmed that production facilities at one of the city’s enterprises had been damaged following a missile attack but did not identify the plant.
